Our Approach

Climate change poses significant environmental challenges for Kenya and Kilifi County as evidenced by the frequent droughts and water shortages. Magarini environmental conservation project intends to rehabilitate and restore favouring environmental practices which will positively contribute towards extreme weather events of droughts and land degradation. The project will be implemented in three zones; Magarini zone, Marafa zone and Garashi zone. The project beneficiaries will be youth in community setup, youth and children in school, community groups and Magarini residents.

The project will also involve Communities living in and around the Arabuko forest where Charcoal burning and timber harvesting are among key activities posing a great threat to the ecosystems within Magarini Sub-county. Guidelines by the Ministry of Health will be observed and precautions taken as we continue raising awareness on the importance of communities taking the responsibility and participate in the protection, conservation, sustainable management of the environment and natural resources. The project will be implemented in 3Years time

Project impact on the targeted beneficiaries

Magarini Environmental Conservation Project will have an integrated ecosystem approach to conserve environmental resources which will be adopted and enhanced to ensure that all ecosystems are managed in an integrated manner while also providing a range of benefits to the residents of Magarini Sub-county. Where benefits will accrue from utilisation of biodiversity, these will be shared in order to promote conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The project aims most at changing or shifting the mind-set of the community from degrading the Magarini land to being environmental sensitive in safeguarding it through small and big actions that contributes positively towards the Magarini ecosystems.
